Resort Inspired Living
Our clients travel frequently and wanted their new home to have a very relaxed, colorful resort-inspired feel. Situated on a golf course with a center courtyard pool, our design concept was to create a private swim club blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Located off the renovated pool, the 5th bedroom was converted to a Cabana Room. The backyard living area was expanded to include a new firepit and BBQ area with planters for the mature palm trees. Both the interior and exterior were updated and customized to maintain the integrity of the home built in 1969, while the color saturated interiors bring the esthetic to the present. Designed for entertaining, this home was furnished using materials and textiles that can withstand family, pets and wet swim-suits.
This project originally started with re-designing the bathrooms with the intent of making over the front elevation. The home is a classic mid-century Alexander home in the Racquet Club neighborhood in Palm Springs. With a need to protect the home and its inhabitants from the afternoon sun, we came up with a short term and long term plan to not only provide shade, but create indoor-outdoor spaces throughout the home.
The bathrooms got fresh makeovers with all new plumbing, electrical, lighting, tile and fixtures. The master bath got a little extra upgrade with the addition of a commercial frames glass door leading out to a new enclosed outdoor shower and soaking tub area.
The front elevation received lava veneer from Hawaii to absorb and radiate heat, block walls to provide shade, space and heritage and its topped off with a cantilevered steel "butterfly" shade structure that turns the flat-roofed Alexander into a butterfly.
There is a second shade structure that follows the lines of the front shade structure, creating a covered outdoor dining courtyard complete with lights, fans and misters. The third shade structure over the BBQ creates a shady place to relax and sip a drink poolside with mountain views for days.
In the outdoor dining courtyard is an indoor-outdoor kitchenette which expands the kitchen outdoors in a weather-tight closet. This home is a true entertainers delight and the homeowners are thrilled with the results.
Colorful Spanish Contemporary
Our "serial entrepreneur" clients from Los Angeles wanted a resort-inspired getaway for their new vacation home in La Quinta, California, while also catering to their family-friendly needs. With two active young children in mind, the interiors are colorful, playful and durable. Even the area rugs in the main rooms are indoor/outdoor rugs, meant to withstand wet bathing suits, spilled sippy cups and everyday wear.
In the great room in front of the fireplace, in lieu of a formal seating group, we chose a reclaimed wood pool table, complete with table tennis top to offer versatility. Family and friends can live, dine and play in the great room in comfort and style. The master suite features a draped canopy bed, loungy seating area and spa-inspired bath.
